It is interesting that the "warrior cultures" just stink at war. For example, when we think of which cultures are warrior-like in this country, jews do not come immediately to mind. In the Middle East, however, Israelis kick Arab butt.

Then again, these are the problems of a shame based culture at war, in which prestige is more important than success and procedure more important than efficiency.
The Italian Army in WW2 had some of these Third World military problems. The yawning social gap between Northern officers and barefoot Sicilian conscripts. The weak NCO staff providing no bridging. A parade ground army that fell to pieces on the battlefield. Since no one wants to accept any ownership of failure, once things turn questionable everyone runs for cover. Officers abandoning their units and saving their own skins.
