" oil and gravel " roads

We got 'em in rural Arizona, too, called "chip-seal". I detest them. The summer heats up the roads, the oily tar gets soft. Everybody's concrete driveways have a tire track of tar, and if you walk your dog in the evening, you'd best wash his feet before going back in the house.

Actually it's "tar and gravel"....a cheap substitute for a properly sealed asphaltic road surface.
Why won't the counties in the area of the Amish provide a more durable road surface? It's more cost effective in the long run.
Tar and gravel is what we call "a paved hog trail"
