note also, that this social security crackdown is only going for those who are using social security numbers that are not issued. I believe that if you use a social security number that is somebody else's, then that's OK. The government just accepts that because they just take the taxes for that social security number from both people and put it into the one account. They have no problem with that. It is only when they don't know what to do with the money that they send the letter out. So, I'm pretty sure it is a minority of illegal aliens using fake social security cards that are getting busted here. But it demonstrates that if they really wanted to crack down that they could. The people who are victims of this crack-down merely need to get different documents from black market sources and try again. At a minimum if they're unlucky enough to get another non-existent social security number, they can at least work 2-3 months at a new job before the federal guv figures it out.

People who want the government to really have policies that will allow for effective enforcement are considered right-wing nuts or worse in the circles of power. The fact that Reagan wanted to do that and the fact that 70% of the americans want real enforcement is completely irrelevant.

That's the way I see it. Some dope at corprate entered my SS# wrong once. I didn't catch it till I did my taxes.

No letter, no nothing from the SS folks. They got their money and had someplace to put it so they were happy.
