You've got that right. Our town was small so my son had to work at United Supermarket bagging groceries and later at a fast food to help pay for his car to drive to a community college in a nearby town while we tried to scrape enough money together to pay his tuition, healthcare and other support. He made minimum wage, but needed it! And he was a good worker, intelligent and charming, and LEGAL.

Good for your son. He sounds like a bright, upstanding citizen who works hard and has good future ahead of him.

Being a mother makes me want to fix everything for my son, but my head tells me that in the long run, I would be taking a valuable lesson away from him and he had better learn that everything in life is not handed to him up a silver platter.

I can't afford these things anyhow so he really does have to get a job. So, I guess he will be competing with illegal aliens in some of these jobs. Shame on Congress for allowing this to happen. Since everyones 401k's are losing value and more companies are imploding, more parents are going to find themsleves in this situation. No more cushion to spoil the kids, time for them to get a job.
