The drawbridge in St. Augustine is called ...The Bridge of Lions....

Is that bridge part of the ICW (Intercoastal Waterway)? If so, in addition to snarling street traffic, it could cause a real mess with boat traffic.

Now that it appears that there will be no serious injuries, we can start making Florida Democrat jokes. Here's the first: A bridge in Miami was reported collapsed today, but on further investigation it was found that a Florida Democrat simply drove off the end of a pier. Said the Democrat, "But I intended to drive across the bridge. Doesn't that count?"

LOL. We used to climb up under the bridge on US1 in Jupiter (years ago) and get on the counter weight and launch off into the water when it started moving. The bridge tenders would get a little upset but they couldnt leave their post. It was pretty fun :)

Well, I have been mistaken when I have jumped to conclusions about terrorists attacks. The anthrax attacks were really not terrorists attacks, they were evidently attacks by some crazy domestic laboratory worker who we have been unable to find. And that Staten Island crash post 9/11 was not a shoe bomb or anything like that, it was just that the plane fell apart. I am sure this bridge thing can be as easily explained with a set of reasons which do not point to our terrorists enemies.

The bridge itself didn't collapse. It was the tower in which the tender stays.

#36...Henry Flagler's legacy is prominent in both cities...
There's a college named after him in St.Augustine ....it used to be an exclusive resort hotel for the wealthy, around the turn of the century.
In Palm Beach is Henry Flagler's historic home.......

And that Staten Island crash post 9/11 was not a shoe bomb or anything like that, it was just that the plane fell apart... That was Flight 587, which crashed on 11/11/01 into Rockaway Beach, Queens...not Staten Island.

Thanks for the update. I just repeated what Fox News told us. I couldn't tell by the pictures what collapsed.

Being from the Bible Belt, I am not that familiar with the NYC area. I stand corrected.

Flagler Drive or Street? And what's with all these Flagler bridges? The govt. ought to do something about this!

Update from Fox per police department spokesperson...tower collapsed and fell on part of the bridge. They have still not determined what caused the collapse. Too soon, they are still working on the scene and have no indication at this time what caused the collapse.
