I assume that anything we read was put out on purpose. In this case, it serves to keep Saddam and his friends on edge. Who knows, maybe he'll even get nervous and purge a few more of his generals.
Personally, I would expect to see the nine carriers we currently have in port put back out to sea before anything starts. That depends on completion of much needed maintenance.
It is my hope that they will be back at sea long before the public knows it has happened. However, since keeping something that big a secret is probably impossible, it would not surprise me to see something start after our carriers are ready for action, but before they actually put to sea.
Rumors abound that we now have a lot of land based aircraft ready, and that we have bases close enough for them to operate from. If so, we would not need carriers to attack Iraq. The carriers could then be used to keep the peace in Taiwan and Korea, and to provide flexibility against contingencies.
BTW: Saudi Arabia is NOT one of the staging areas. Another indication of impending action would be a reduction in the number of Americans in Saudi Arabia. If I worked in Saudia Arabia, I would avoid the rush and find work elsewhere NOW.
First things first (Iraq), but someday the House of Saud will discover that what they have done has consequences. Big time. So sad. :)

Most analysts believe the most likely time for an attack is next January or February.
Not knowing anymore than anyone else, I would say between August and September.
