Parking Garage Explosion Injures One

Washington (AP) - Part of a Northwest DC neighborhood is being evacuated this afternoon, following a fire and explosion in a garage.

A 21-year-old man is in serious condition at Washington Hospital Center. Witnesses tell reporters he was on fire.

This happened inside a garage at 5225 Wisconsin Avenue. Apparently, the garage attendants heard an explosion, saw a vehicle on fire and tried to put it out. A doctor in a nearby building tried to help the injured man.

Wisconsin Avenue is shut between Harrison Street and Western Avenue, while police, fire and ATF combs the area.

Metro says the Jenifer Street escalators to the Red Line subway station are closed, though the other entrances remain open, and service isn't affected. There are also some bus detours.
