Logically it fits very well. But I agree that there is no physical evidence. Nobody has been looking for any. Most of the evidence that might have pointed to the van Dams has been destroyed, the body, the house and the car.

Another, just before sleep thought: Allowing both VDs in the court room sets them up for emotional outburst....Since defense didn't ask they be further banned...and they are easily stimulated...maybe a Perry Mason ...last minute courtroom dramatic ending is being planned??? Ya think?

Is it correct that the Van Dam's steam cleaned or ripped out and replaced carpeting?
If Damon really wants to settle the score with Westerfield it seems he would have left anything in place that in any way would lead to evidence Westerfield was in the house.
Why would you destroy anything that could lead to your daughter's killer? Had it been thoroughly tested and cleared as disposable by SDPD?
