I didn't get the impression that his father took votes for granted. I got the impression that Bush the first did not really want to be reelected. He had had a long career in government and he didn't seem to have Clintoon's desire to be president just for the sake of ego. I imagine that he may have had very mixed emotions when he was not reelected.

My dad once said that any man who truly wanted to be President was unfit to hold the office. No one in their right mind would want the job. Clinton proved just how correct Dad was. The older I get. the more I realize how many times my dad has been right.
