Pre 9/ll more than 2,000 shipments of nuclear waste were made without incident to the Hanford site in New Mexico. They all go with guards and unpublicized, but terrorism is a real concern. I agree, but I also feel leaving it lying all over the country is a terrorism risk, too.

The United States government has a contract with all our nuclear plants, etc. to provide storage of their waste. We have been paid by rate increases passed on already to the recipients of the electricity that was generated. Now we will be liable to fulfill this contract as the local sites are almost full and they need either to dig more swimming pools to hold the waste all over the country, or they need to ship it to one repository.

By law, if Nevada site isn't selected by the end of July, the government has to start the process of selection all over, and multibillions and ten years have already been spent doing the initial exams, science, selection, and site preparation. We would have to go through that process and expense all over again, only to end up with Alabama or Washington or another state mad as hell, like Nevada is now.

They should have closed the nuclear plants down in the first place. Nevada doesn't have any nuclear plants....they learned their lesson well after so much death and suffering from the bomb testing. Now its being forced on us by the rest of you. We don't want it. You find a way to deal with what you have created. And yes, I voted for Bush and in fact did some work for him. I managed to scare up a few votes for him! :0) PS. We will fight to the end. We'll find a way to block that stuff from coming our way or we'll die trying.

How much of it could be used to run nuclear power plants rather than buring it for ten thousand years and wasting like most other PC liberal/socialists programs. Are there really two arguments here? Yes the US needs a burial site. But is it not true that by giving into the environmental radicals we are burying usuable nuclear fuel that could power electric generating plants for years. First the loonies block the most one of the sensible and safe forms of producing nuclear energy, then they cry global warming when we bow to their wishes and use other forms of power.

We need a President and a political party willing to take a stand and block the lunatics on the left. The Republicans are not even taking a stand. Does the "R" stand for "R"etreat?
