"Instead, I personally donate to candidates from other states."
I have no problem with that. In fact we are not in disagreement at all. If you lived in Arizona, for example, I would expect you to vote for an alternative Republican to replace McCain in the primary.
But, failing that, I would still vote for McCain. I dislike him and the others you mentioned as well. They vote where they think the majority is going for purposes of getting the vote. When they see clear evidence of a much more conservative shift, and they see that their own party is put in clear power because of it, they will get more conservative and they will back the party (for the most part). If, on the other hand, you voted for a dem, or facilitated one's election with a throw-away 3d party vote, you have taken away from your party's overall ability to effect change.
I fully support your decision not to send money to the RNC. If you feel that they will spend it those whose views you do not support. Send to those that do. That is what I meant about working to steer the party in the direction you want it to go.

There's a great candidate in Michigan I am supporting.
I am stuck with Feingold, Kohl and Baldwin in Wisconsin.....I feel cursed, but not without hope!
Of course I support Republican candidates running against the above as well.
