CBS Market Watch "Big Charts" Web Site ^ | 7/10/2002 | MarketWatch.com

12:57PM Halliburton responds to Judicial Watch lawsuit (HAL) by Michael Baron Halliburton (HAL) is off 30 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $13.82, in midday action. The company is out with a press release responding to a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group. The suit alleges fraudulent accounting practices at Halliburton took place during the period when current vice president Dick Cheney served as its chairman and CEO. Halliburton called the claims in the suit, "untrue, unsupported, and unfounded." The company continued: "We are working diligently with the SEC to resolve its questions regarding the company's accounting procedures. Halliburton has always followed and will continue to follow guidelines established by the SEC and GAAP, General Accepted Accounting Principles."

How about a Halliburton shareholder suit against JW for all Halliburton stock losses as a result of this suit when it is found to be without merit?

All it would take, I think, is force Judicial Watch to comply with the IRS audit.

WHITE HOUSE INTERVENTION IN CHENEY HALLIBURTON LAWSUIT INAPPROPRIATE

Comments by President’s Spokesman Put Improper Pressure on Court and Ongoing SEC Investigation

(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today raised questions about the Bush White House’s response to the news that Judicial Watch filed suit against Vice President Cheney over alleged stock fraud and conspiracy. The lawsuit, filed yesterday, also names Halliburton, Arthur Andersen, and Halliburton board members as defendants. Ari Fleischer, spokesman for the President of United States, during a press briefing yesterday described the pending lawsuit as “without merit.”

In response, Larry Klayman, Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel, issued the following statement:

“The Bush White House’s intervention in this legal matter, which is also the subject of an ongoing Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigation, is both inappropriate and improper. Fleischer’s statement could be taken as a signal by the court in our case and by the SEC not to get to the truth of the Vice President’s role in the Halliburton matter. The White House’s proper response should have been, ‘The President has no comment on pending lawsuits and ongoing SEC investigations.’ In the meantime, Judicial Watch looks forward to finding out the factual basis for Fleischer’s comment.”

I just heard Larry Klayman on Laura Ingraham's show. After trying to hide behind phrases like "our complaint alleges," he finally said that he personally believes that Dick Cheney intentionally and deliberately defrauded investors. Laura said that he couldn't possibly believe that, and that if that were so that Cheney should be impeached. KLAYMAN SAID THAT IT MAY COME TO THAT!

He said that they would get to do all sorts of discovery and even depose Cheney, and that the evidence which he uncovers could lead to impeachment.

You're sh!tting me! Larry the K is driving this buggy right over the cliff.

Wait a minute. Didn't Klayman make the same promise with EVERY lawsuit he filed against the Clintonistas? That this was THE SMOKING GUN that'd bring them down, that this was THE BIG KAHUNA?

Ya know, all this means is Larry's got a whole new bunch of suckers to tap for donations. SUCKERS!

I'd think it would be time for any sensible JW( if any are left) employee to begin to send out resumes. It's one thing to do this peacetime, but quite another during War.

Can there be a worse lawyer than Klayman in DC?? He's finished now.The Dems will use him only up to a point then kneecap him, like they always do, and the Pubbies will excommunicate the man.

I could say something about Klayman's press releases, but I might get banned.

Let's just say it's an activity of adolescent boys.

I think Cheney will squash him like a bug-- humiliate the little twerp. He better hope that he never gets to depose Cheney. Cheney could wither that little pansy with one look.

There are better ways to do that.Sooner or later,JW employee's will have to decide if they go with Larry, or wish to have careers in DC.I'd think someone could amass an interesting collection of memorandum.Any JW whistleblowers out there???

Don't you love how the question from CNN's Moneyline poll:

“Should Vice President Dick Cheney answer questions about accounting at Halliburton?”

Became

OVERWHELMING PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR JUDICIAL WATCH LAWSUIT AGAINST VP CHENEY & HALLIBURTON

What a DOCUMENTED LIAR Larry Klayman is.

Don't Larry's press releases sound completely self-serving. He reminds me of FIJC in this one-- "See evewyboy! The pubwic agwees wif me! I'm wight, I'm wight!"

Well, this could be a big "bag" for Klayman, you know. After all, in his mind, he'll be laying the groundwork for impeachment for a "defacto president of the United States."

And we ALL know who agrees with him.

I hope Klayman's house is in order. Hell is going to come down on this man.

Now, it seems to me that if a company UNDERESTIMATED its income from these charges, etc., then an investor who sold too cheap would have as much reason to complain as an investor who bought too dear due to "too high" estimates. Maybe someone who DIDN'T buy (of which I am one) should sue because if the charges had been more accurate, I would have bought and ultimately would have realized a profit.

The point is that these are LOSING jury arguments. These Plaintiffs will never be able to make a case that anything which was done caused them harm.

Klayman does not understand these issues because he has never had a jury trial and has no concept of how to present compelling evidence to a jury. His only frame of reference is how he can WOW contributors, important donators such as Ross Perot, and mindless syncophants such as Rebeckie.
