CBS Market Watch "Big Charts" Web Site ^ | 7/10/2002 | MarketWatch.com

12:57PM Halliburton responds to Judicial Watch lawsuit (HAL) by Michael Baron Halliburton (HAL) is off 30 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $13.82, in midday action. The company is out with a press release responding to a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group. The suit alleges fraudulent accounting practices at Halliburton took place during the period when current vice president Dick Cheney served as its chairman and CEO. Halliburton called the claims in the suit, "untrue, unsupported, and unfounded." The company continued: "We are working diligently with the SEC to resolve its questions regarding the company's accounting procedures. Halliburton has always followed and will continue to follow guidelines established by the SEC and GAAP, General Accepted Accounting Principles."

The real kicker here is that Halliburton made this accounting change, and published that fact, in 1998.

These plaintiffs bought their stock in November of 2001, and February of 2002.

We need tort reform.

The Nixon secret plan to end the Vietnam war (not to mention the 18 minute gap) made it difficult to vote Republican, but Carter cured me of any lingering urge to vote Democrat. Sometimes tough when you have no real conservative candidate, however, I do believe I will hang in there with the Republicans. It's the only way I know to avoid another Clinton/Gore disaster.

Thanks, terilyn. At least they disclosed it unlike some other companies. It's the shareholder's responsibility to read it and if they can't understand it,go to somebody who does understand it! Just good old common sense.

"These people approached Judicial Watch for help and Larry decided to tak up the case."

HOLD ON THERE LITTLE LADY...

Not one hour ago your posted here for everybody to read that Larry sent out an email looking for plaintiffs. You even stated that you received one yourself so that's how you knew it to be a fact.

You're either lying or spinning. You choose.

Nixon was to Republicans what Batista was to Cubans.

Everyone wanted Batista out, they all said "anyone but him".

We have all since changed our minds.

That's tough rhetoric.... Good choice of law firms if you want to lose..... I wonder if 'eww' gave them an advance on their winnings?

Two Halliburton investors were scammed out of their hard-earned money and they have chosen Judicial Watch as the law firm of choice.

They both bought their stock AFTER Cheney became vice-president; at that point he was no longer CEO of Halliburton.

How could Cheney have "scammed" these investors if he wasn't in charge of the company?

How was the investor who made a profit on his Halliburton stock "scammed"?

Awful lot of smoke here, I wonder if there is a fire? I saw Cheney touting Arthur Andersen and their out of the box thinking about accounting in a TV commercial.

As always my conviction that both wings of the Republicrat party are equally corrupt has been confirmed.

"In 1995 Halliburton was prosecuted and forced to plead guilty to trading with Libya, a terrorist state on the U.S. watch list."

Sounds like a great organization to be a part of. Anyway, it is very likely that the same fraudulent practices seen with this case, were already in place when Cheney was with Halliburton. If Cheney took any part in divising a plan to scam investors, he can be held liable for it, even if these people bought stock after he left.
