"It's not surprising that President Clinton is raising money for Democratic candidates across the country," said Justin Lonon, a Kirk spokesman said Tuesday. "You have a party leader helping Democratic candidates, just as Republicans are utilizing their leadership in their races." Deniability is a well worn passage from the Clinton playbook.

I hope Cornyn gets some good photos of Kirk and Clinton together at the fundraiser. It will make excellent TV ad material for him.

Clinton will get Kirk the black vote and all the scumbags votes, not enough to get elected.

Polls in Texas remain discouraging in this race because Cornyn is so boring and such a lousy campaigner. Does anyone there have any confidence that Cornyn can pull this out?

What was Kirk doing on July 4th? Was he invited to participate in any Independence Day Celebrations? Did he host a grand event?
NO ... he was the Grand Marshal of a 4th of July Parade in All Republican, All The Time Denton County. Someone not real polically savvy on the organizing committee of our little city's (pop 28,000) event contacted the Kirk offices close to the event date and invited him to be the Grand Marshal. He had nothing else to do on that day so he rode in the head car at 10:00 a.m. in the parade.
There are many of us still growling over this bone-head move. But, hopefully, him not having any other commitment on the 4th may suggest he is NOT in demand.

Cornyn's problem is that he offers no enthusiasm for the Republican base -- no exciting rhetoric, no red meat. Bill Clinton's TX base will turn out in mass for Kirk no matter what. Some "moderates" will support Kirk to "prove" that they are not "racist," as happened with L. Douglas Wilder in VA in 1989.

I am confident that Cornyn will win. Polls are not a good thing to go by. They are very inaccurate and cannot properly gauge the political climate. The only polls that I worry about are the ones that close at 7 pm on November 5.

Yep! I'm confident Cornyn will win..........

I don't recall much red meat coming out from Kay Bailey Hutchison's successful campaigns. Cornyn is going to do fine. He hasn't even started campaigning yet.
The Democrats don't really think that a black big-city mayor is going to be elected US Senator from Texas. They merely want a token black and a token hispanic on the statewide ticket so that they can increase voter turnout for their real goal, the Lt. Gov position.
I don't have any doubt that Cornyn will win.

It's Cornyn's to lose, imo. Cornyn hasn't done a lot of media type campaigning but has been touring the rural/agricultural areas that don't get a lot of publicity. Kirk spent some $2 million in a hotly contested primary and runoff to secure his nomination and has depleted his war chest to some $1 million. Cornyn spent only some $300,000 to win the Republican primary and got very little media attention and retains a war chest of some $3 million. Thus the news has been Kirk and Sanchez all spring since Cornyn and Perry had easy primary wins...
As Labor day approaches look for more publicity by Cornyn... then is when you'll begin to get a true feel of how this race will develop
