[history]
MELBOURNE -- Robert Turner was a standout soccer player who would have made Satellite High's varsity team this fall, and Jeffrey Kinnick a New Jersey transplant who loved R&B music and played junior varsity football.
With the two Satellite High students Tuesday morning was Aaron Greer-Jones, a former teen model whose family had moved to Brevard County thinking it would provide a safer environment than urban South Florida.

"...their car, traveling at more than 100 mph, careened off a rain-slick construction zone on U.S. 1 and slammed into a pine tree...
"The vehicle also had a space saver spare tire on its right rear. The speeds for those differ with the manufacturer. In this case, the tire wasn't designed to go over 50 mph."Along this stretch of road it takes constant attention to stay with the irregular surface, twists, bumps, etc... Going more than 55-60 would qualify anyone as crazy.
Add rain, darkness, youth, and "donut" spare to the equation and... well, all one can say is, "God, please comfort these families."

Isn't that the area of US 1 just south of Cocoa where the VFW has a decorative "rocket" along the road? I used to drive that road daily - the VFW would always wrap lights around the "rocket" during Christmastime.

This is further south of that. It happened between Florida Metropolitan University and the DAV.
The DAV building is just north of an old, large ornamental Florida orange.
The old rocket you mention is still there and they still hang lights on it.

I feel sorry for the families and it is a horrible tragedy that no family should have to endure. But these kids are dead for 1 reason. Their stupidity. There is no one else to blame but they themselves.

Their stupidity. There is no one else to blame but they themselves.I suppose you never did anything stupid when you were a kid. I shudder as I remember things from my 20's - these kids were just in their teens.
Only the Grace of God protected me from being just as dead.

Add rain, darkness, youth, and "donut" spare to the equation and... well, all one can say is, "God, please comfort these families." Amen. Our community lost two kids (one from our youth group) last March. Speed was a factor on a small road (just 100 yards form one kid's home). They were on their way to pick up a friend for Bible Study.
My heart goes out to these families.

It is a tragedy and by no means do I mean to make light of it. But when I saw the headline, my first thought was, "Who will the parents sue?"
That their son might be at fault, is irrelevant. Look at the case of the Tampa Taliban.
So who will it be? The California Highway Department for having built the road? Accutane? The car manufacturer? Some guy who happens to know the driver?
This is happening in NYC where a drunk driver killed several people and relatives are suing organizations to which the driver belonged and people who knew him -- with Cochran reportedly their lawyer.

My father was the one who taught us kids how to drive. Before I even started the car, he told me to face him and he raised one finger, pointed it at me and said " Remember. Speed kills ". I can see him like it was yesterday, and it was 25 years ago. Looks like he was right.

I did lots of stupid things and continue to do so to this day. Luckily i never killed myself, but if I had crashed my car doing in excess of 100 MPH with a DONUT spare on the car it would have been 100% MY FAULT and due to my STUPIDITY.

Been There - Done that....
But, thank the Lord, our oldest survived the 'Head-On' with a Drunk/Stoned Driver (Going too fast - in the wrong lane - on a rain-soaked highway).
That "Phone Call", that turned into a personal vist, IS one of the worst things that a parent can hear !! !! !! !! !! !!

I bet "plane" is spelled plain... I'm a spelling/grammer wreck...
