I don't think he has a snowballs chance in hell of ever getting out on parole unless he comes clean on the Smart case. If he acted alone, then she must be dead, and you are correct that he has more to lose by talking. If he had an accomplice(s), then there is a slim possibility that she is alive, and he may want to negotiate.

I don't remember if the police made a specific statement as to whether or not they think it's a hoax. I don't know what they think. I think they've had this for a while and probably discounted it. I think Ed released it because media interest is about to die, the police are providing nothing to keep media interested, and Ed knew no other way to stimulate interest now other than submitting to things the family has resisted to maintain their privacy, like giving out interviews of their kids or giving tours of their house.

This is the point I was trying to make when I saw Ed Smart on TV at noon today. Mentioning the letter has worked the media is now crawling all over this story again! They will rant and rave over this for at least another week. One more week to have Liz's story in the news. Smart move on the family if you ask me!

Dominick Dunne was on the radio today talking with M. Fuhrman....he said that the family is strange....he is very suspicious especially when the changes to MK's story were announced.....he mentioned that since the oj trial he always reads the NE...

I wouldn't be surprised, & they're probably haven't ruled anyone out. Someone always gets restless.

Just heard on the tv which might have been mentioned above, the cops had no idea about the letter that Ed read..Sounds like someone was intent on sending this letter just to keep the press around..Lot of oddities/suspicions in this case..I hope someone sits down with the PARENTS to explain the consequences of what's occurring.

for me...I have lost faith in this case, the dad, the cops...and the media....

I question everything about this case...it seems it is built on a house of cards...and pretty soon, unless there has been some brilliant police work done that we don't know about...pretty soon Lizzie will be the Utah version of Molly Bish...a wonderful young girl taken from her life guard job in the middle of the day...she just vanished...leaving all her personal items ...that was two years ago....

I haven't heard the police say how long they've interviewed Ricci, just that the interviews are ongoing.

A. Banfield reported last week that the police told her that they had only talked with Ricci about half of that time and that he was no longer talking, per his attorney.
