Brigette, I can understand your defending Ed Smart. God knows we all would hate to be the father of a missing child. But I think you're pulling a "Kim". You are bending over backwards to rationalize what others see clearly as bizarre behavior.

Right from the start this didn't smell right. If this family is not involved then they are the strangest group of people I've seen lately short of the van Dams.

His affect today was strange to say the least. Frankly, at this juncture I'd be sedated in a mental institution, but he's out joking with the Press, laughing and seemingly unaffected by all that's happened.

No way there isn't something very strange going on here. A post sometime back alluded as to how these people keep popping up on TV every day telling people to search here, and search there, but from day 1 they have'nt provided full disclosure to the public they so desperately want to help.

If the child saw this guy where the hell is the composite sketch???? The child's story has changed so many times it makes you wonder exactly what she saw or what might have happened. And the Uncle with his " I know this family has issues" statement on LKL. What issues???????????? That they're strange,...yeh, we know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just hope that if this letter IS credible, that by MR. S hasn't jeopordized the life of his child. There are reasons why the PD doesn't release information. Also, if it is real, he could/may have frightened this person into not making anymore contact.

I'll give Ed Smart the benefit of the doubt. I think reality is setting in, they are grasping at straws. I think they've followed the police advice to a T, there just haven't been any breaks in this case. And I do believe that if Mary Katherine had seen the perp's face well enough to do a sketch, there would be a sketch out there right now.

As far as Mary Katherine's story changing, not really. I think the media has reported somewhat poorly what occurred, and the police did allow a little bit of a not complete description stay out there initially. Police have said that Mary Katherine's story has stayed consistent, there have been added details, which is normal, because memory of certain things comes later on in the interviews. She has been interviewed by child forensic psychologists, who have said that if a person is lying, especially a child, the story will fall apart after the first few interviews. Mary Katherine's has not.

I haven't heard the interview/press conference with Ed Smart that took place today. I think it was a combination of nerves and sorrow, and desperation. I don't know what my reaction would be either...

I think the only way that Ed Smart could communicate was through the media. I don't know if it was a mistake or not today for him to say something, I do believe the letter was received on July 3, which was over a week ago.

I scanned the previous posts and didn't see this mentioned: The letter was sent to Shriner's Hospital and was postmarked in Dallas. Just heard this within the hour on the local (SLC) news.
