The guy had everything going for him. Just goes to shot that money and success does not necessarily translate into happiness. (If in fact, this is really a suicide.)

I would not be surprised either way. Money does not make one happy. Maybe he got dumped by a significant other. Or maybe someone figured that if you shoot enough geeks, P2P will go away.

I meant to say "just goes to show" not "just goes to shot."

Freudian slip?

Doctorow said Kan's personality recently began to take on a tone of depression and described his colleague as "dour."

Something got him down,way down.

I wouldn't put it past someone in the RIAA or MIAA to have him whacked.

Hmmm... tin foil or not... the socialist propaganda from some "media" outfits certainly would drive anyone nutty who works in the field of media and distribution.

Funny how you never hear about this happening to Microsoft developers or Media executives ...just their competition.

Yup.

But the pointy-haired managers are the sort of folks who think you can tuck a mushroom cloud back into the bomb casing...

Strange? Not really. But sad, yes.

He was young, smart, and driven. Depression is not uncommon among the exceedingly intelligent. (Meanwhile, I wouldn't be surprised if he saw himself as a failure.)

It's clear, however, that details as to what may have pushed him over the edge have been omitted.
