I'm almost positive the Tamils are Hindus. I say this because I knew a guy years ago, from Tamil state in Southern India (Madras is their largest city, and the Tamils in Sri Lanka migrated there from Tamil state) who was Hindu; his uncle was even a Hindu priest.

FWIW, Hinduism like most of the world's religions has its own intensely violent history to contend with.

Almost to a man. It's the Buddhists who have been running the ongoing war of annihilation against them.

Don't get me wrong -- Hindu Tamil Tigers dish out at least what they take. But, Buddhist does not necessarily equal pacifist, and Sri Lanka has some pretty ugly ones.
