Does something like that happen at a grand jury?

I have no idea.

I could be wrong here but I think the grand jury can request certain questions and the prosecutor can decline to ask or answer the questions. I don't think they can directly pose their questions to witnesses but have to ask the prosecutor. Any lawyers out there that can answer this?

I recently talked to someone that was on a grand jury and they stated that the jurors can ask questions directly to any witness.
