The Associated Press Monday, July 8, 2002; 10:21 AM LOS ANGELES ?? An amateur video shows Inglewood police officers punching a teenager and slamming his head against the hood of a patrol car, and the department said it will investigate.

The probe was announced Sunday after the tape, taken a day earlier from a nearby motel, was turned over to police and local media.

Watch the tape, the cop was obviously wrong. We picks him up and slams the kids face into the car and then 20 sec's later slaps or punches the kid in the side of the head all while the kid is handcuffed.

Im not a whinney cop-bashing lib, but any common sense will tell you that the cop was in the wrong.

Then again that dosent mean that this kid who probably was a rap sheet a mile long should get a million bucks, but he probaby will.

The cop wasnt defending himself from some thug, just watch the tape

How do you know that he fought with the cops?

On the report I saw, the announcer said that the cop who slammed the kid had a 2-3 in. gash above his left ear. It did look like there was a wound there. How come they didn't beat up the driver, also?

Like I said earlier, if you want to kick someone's ass, you don't shackle them first. Continuing to fight someone after they are subdued is a quick way to lose job and pension

It's also a mark of unprofessionalism and lack of self-control.

I have not seen the tape and can't seem to view it on that website, but from what you say occurred (I trust your account when I couldn't trust the AP if they said the same thing), the cop was in the wrong in this situation. While he clearly had been attacked, he did not have the right to attack like that when the subject was handcuffed and obviously already subdued. I can understand though. The situation obviously was very nerve-racking and the officer should not be fired or suspended (though unfortunately, he has already been suspended).

He should receive a censure of some sort.

The cop that punched the kid should be in a bit of trouble, a talking-to about keeping one's temper in check perhaps, but this is getting blown out of proportion a bit. It ain't Rodney King.

Okay. I saw the tape. Didn't see any raging Rodney King moments, though. Actually, I didn't see the kid being hit in the face. I DID see him struggling quite a bit; even after they had him on the car hood, he was still fighting them.

No opinion one way or another on this one.

Completely uncalled for, he was in cuffs being held by what appears to be 4-5 cops. I'm a big defender of cops usually but this was not proper behavior. Rodney King however had it coming.

They are showing the tape on tv on various news shows. Unfortunately this WarshPost article came out, and whatever they said about it, the fact that they said it totally discredits what you saw.

Remember, our discussions in FreeRepublic add value to news stories, and to the media who carry them initially. The WarshPost chose to not participate. So, no matter what it is, avoid them as even a reference! I would hope that in the long run we can sever our ties with the WarshPost so thoroughly that when Ben Bradlee passes on to his reward (in "outer darkness"), it will not even be mentioned here.

Those police Officers should all be fired! No officer shluld be allowed to slam a head on a hood and then hit someone in the head when cuffed! Don't they do that kinda stuff in Irag, Iran, Nazi Germany,China, Russia and Cuba! Should looks like we are headed that way! Let's stop this police state behavior.
