Driving back from Salisbury, MD yesterday, I was listening to an African American radio discussion (out of DC) where they were discussing black issues re the Republicans. At one point a woman on the panel said that "they picked Condi Rice--not 'cause she was black--but because she was so good at her job." The implications were: 1) she does not count as an AA for Bush because she's good at her job 2) only incompetent AAs should count. It was astounding

I see reasons for terror among Dems over this conclusion, which I am certain is not unique to that panel.
