While patriotism has always been a backdrop of political campaigns, analysts say that in the wake of Sept. 11 it has become a theme in its own right - and more potent grounds for attack.

IN that case the LIBOCRATS are out of the picture completely

"local media have largely ignored them"

The media have largely ignored the radical statements of a radical Democrat that, if widely reported, would outrage patriotic Americans and sink her candidacy like the Titanic. NO!!

Then again, maybe it's ok with the constituency in this congressional district.

So in the days following Sept. 11, Sumers posted a message on a Web site for Americans in Afghanistan, expressing horror at the attacks but also decrying the dangers of "jingoistic 'patriotism'" in the U.S. That was all it took for her opponent, Republican Scott Garrett, to label her "radical" and "anti-American."

Scott Garrett's election has national importance. I know him personally, and he is someone all FReepers should support. We all have an interest in his being elected because if he does not succeed, that will give the RINO Repubs who run the Repub Party in many places (like NJ) justification to exclude conservative Repubs. I encourage you all to go to Scott Garrett's website and give what they can.
