People would be amazed to know that many Germans served in the American Armed Forces in WW2.

In his autobiography, America's leading World War One ace, Eddie Rickebacker, wrote that his family spoke German at home when he was a child and that he spoke English rather poorly when he started school. That resulted in a nickname of "Dutch" and many fights on the way to and from school.
