There has been some research on this. These soldiers were
Mischlinge, that is, descendants of Jews who converted to Christianity in the 19th century and intermarried with Germans.
These people did not identify themselves as Jews, did not practice Judaism or have anything to do with the Jewish community. They were "Jews" only according to the Nazi racist definition.

I think it's interesting about the timing of this kind of thing. The liberals have decided to align themselves with the Muslims and now must demonize the Jews who they were previously aligned with. No more Jews as victims, they are now the Nazis and the Muslims are the new fad.
