You know, there is a long history of CAPTURING the Kaaba that might just BE the answer!
In the fifth century it passed to the Koreish, an ancient Bedouin tribe to which Mohammed belonged.
After acquireing the Kaaba, they became one of the most powerful tribes in Arabia.
Then in the tenth century, the Karmathians, a community from lower Mesopotamia, after conquering all of Yemen,
carried away the black stone in the Kaaba and kept it for ten years.
As late as 1932, an Afgan attempted to steal it.

I would love to see the pilgrimage that would follow... the Arab world would have to start using their engineering degrees to figure out space travel instead of how to blow up the creations of others.
