CAIRO: The father of Egyptian gunman Hisham Mohammed Hadayet who opened fire at a check-in counter of Israeli carrier El Al in Los Angeles was a general in Egypt's army, his neighbors said Friday.

The former general, Ahmad Ali Hadayet, lives in the family household in the central Abbassiya district in Cairo, an AFP reporter said.

The information was confirmed by security sources here, but the family refused to talk to reporters.

On Thursday, Hisham Hadayet opened fire at the check-in counter of Israel's national airline El Al killing a 20-year-old female clerk and a middle-aged man, before being shot dead himself by an El Al security agent.

"I have known Hisham for several years. He was a normal person, he was religious but did not go often to the mosque," one of his neighbors said, requesting anonymity.

Hadayet's wife and two children returned to Egypt in June, security sources said. They added that his wife has been questioned, without elaborating.

FBI officials said that Hadayet was on their watch list, without saying why. They added he had lived in the United States since 1992 and worked as a limousine driver.

Egyptian officials kept mum Friday after the FBI revealed one of their fellow nationals carried out the Los Angeles attack. Officials at the interior ministry refused to comment when questioned by reporters.

Lawyer Montasser al-Zayet, who defends Egyptian Islamists in court, said Hadayet was not known to be a member of any Islamist movement.

I'm afraid this crank using redneck with his Hawaian shirt does not qualify as an Islamic terrorist in my book:

>Maybe others were intercepted on July 4. Or chickened out.

The attacker was seen walking around with some other people before. Two other people are being held regarding the attack. Perhaps they wanted to reprise the Rome airport attack but the other guys bailed out. (You go first. No you go. You start, then we'll join in. The shooting starts and the other guys run.)

One story I read said that he did not believe his son did this and would not until the Egyptian govt confirmed. Then I read a liberal version that said "The father was in disbelief"

Why is this guy even in the country? Don't we have some people on welfare that would qualify to drive limousines.

The United States is going to pay for years for this stupid open door policy to people from the Middle East. By the way so will the French who have 5 million arabs in their midst.

I don't understand why the US gummint and media are trying to convince us that this wasn't a terrorist act?

I think what the g*o*v*e*r*n*m*e*n*t is telling us at this moment is, they have no direct evidence at this time that Hadayet carried out these shootings as part of an organized group of know terrorists. What is your problem with that?

BTW this s**mbag Hadadyet hates the US government and would probably get a real big freeping KICK at the way you spell "US gummint".

Dave, one of the critical things we need to address ... NOW ... are these counterfit identification syndicates. We need to sting these guys hard and toss them in prison for 20-25. It does no good to deport these guys when they have two other legally resident identities they can come right back through the turnstile with. There are guys here forging out-of-state drivers licenses - which are immediately exhanged for resident state licenses in many states. They don't check, they don't know what a authentic New Mexico drivers license looks like in Minnesota.

Most of all ... the Egyptians and Saudis need to clean house in their immigration agencies, because THEY are providing false citizenships, credentials and passports for these sleepers. Forget Iraq ... we need to step up to Saudi Arabia and Egypt ... it's their university professors, their inbred Royal ne'er do wells and Intelligence operatives, their mullahs and immigration bureaus who are funding all this mayhem. Dave, I hope I live long enough to enjoy watching the Saudi Royal Family hang from lamposts for their treachery and oppression.

I'm just tired of being lied to by the US gummint. You, on the other hand, apparently lick their boots.

US gummint, lick their boots -- you hide behind insulting cliches because that's how you think.

State the government lie using quoted statements in full context.

Those who have ears shall hear

With all respect sir, the volume needs to be amped up to Def Lepperd proportions. I don't hear the clarion call of support for our efforts at home and abroad from the American Muslim Communities. Believe me, I want to hear it!!! I hear grievance, injury and equivocation from the American Islamic Organizations that are feeding the media outlets. Regards!

Was Hadayet on a gummint watch list or not?

I don't have time to play your silly games. Let's see what the next 48 hours bring.

I've been out all day, but so far I've seen no confirmation of this.

I don't have time to play your silly games.

You tell me the government is lieing, I say give me the quoted lie in full context -- you call that a silly game.

Let's see what the next 48 hours bring.

Yep... and BTW, trust nobody.

He warned that citing the Egyptian copilot as deliberately causing the crash would have a negative effect on Egyptian-US relations.

The Egyptians, as a statement of outrage, are threatening to decline America's $4 billion gift this year. If we really piss them off, there are rumblings that they might give us $4 billion as a rebuke. It's getting nasty.

The murderer gunned down a 25 year old woman in cold blood. It's easy to summon rage sometimes.

I suppose you could go to my homepage and check out the links, both to the articles and to the American Ambassador in Ankara..

Here, I'll say it again: We've had the dubious honor of being declared a nation of infidels by Usame for being what we are, a secular Muslim society which condemns terror (and has for a very very long time)..

How do you like hearing your liberal "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" bullshit now? Let me hear you loud and clear..

And Turkey has what to do with the American Muslim Community I referenced? Sorry, I don't get radio free Izmir up here in Minnesota. It's on the same frequency as a polka station out of Flin Flon, Manitoba.

Hey, I was noticing. Your Ottomans owned all the land in the Middle East back in 1900 or so. You guys put in with the Germans in WWI. Bummer.

And, why didn't your new and improved Islam lead the denizens of all that land you ruled out of their 8th Century Culture? Thanks for your input, hey and thanks to you and your countrymates for taking all that Taliban opium and making heroin out of it.

Tn is apparently one of the worse states for these false drivers licenses.

Maybe if the people who grant terrorists a false id/driver's license were charge for treason and whatever crimes the people with their false ids did, there might be a big change.

This article says that the perps FATHER is a retired General.

Other sources say his UNCLE is a retired General.

Are BOTH his Uncle and Father Generals?

If so, then our perp is CONNECTED.

Can you think of an American who has both and what kind of life style that would mean?

Is the perp really a sleeper for the Egyptian brand
of jihad?

Oh, yeah, the Uncle generals last name is MAHFOUZ!
