A few years ago I stayed with a family in Frankfurt. I spoke no German, although I spoke a little Dutch which is similar, and the family spoke no English. The father, who was a kid in WWII, took special delight in showing me before and after aerial photos of Frankfurt. The before pictures were before the Americans bombed, the after photos were after the Americans bombed. You could tell he was still angry and still hates Americans because of it. I felt like telling him I was born long after that, that I had nothing to do with bombing Frankfurt.
People sure do hold on to grudges for a long time.
