In most circumstances, I would agree.

Ever seen the inside of a VAN. One used for work, inside all scraped up and beat up. Paint loose and flaking off ?

The car paint from the late 80's does -- that's the paint with troubles that bubbles off cars of that vintage. The car manufacturers in those years had to change over to new paints that had less volatile solvents in them.

Here is a link to Tom and Ray, the Car Talk guys, discussing the problem. 1988 Dodge Caravan ... the paint peeling real bad.
