when you check your own "My Comment's" FR feature. If something large breaks in the case during
the day I will send out a new ping to everyone on my Ping List. Something breaking to me is if they find
Elizabeth or actually arrest a person for kidnapping her. It is up to you to visit this thread several times daily
as others and I will continue to add the latest breaking news reports as they are released throughout the day.

TheDon going for the all time record of most consecutive posts in a thread is disrupted by Amore. ;^)

I don't think she was abducted by a
boyfriend, but I am open to including
others beyond Ricci as suspects. So,
if Young doesn't fit the info on the
one who took her from home, I wondered
if a son might. MK could be wrong on
the perp's age(30-40 vs. 17) but right
otherwise. Not suggesting it's so.....
Just wondering!

Smart Case - Ashleigh Banfield's

RICCI: I do work. I work part-time, and I actually haven't been to work for about two weeks. Between the stress and the FBI and the media, it's been a very hard time for me. I'm just a single mom trying to make it. So, it's really stressful right now.

I have heard a couple of FBI profilers say that too. One said that people/criminals can start the sex crimes at any time, just because it isn't in their official rap sheet, doesn't mean they haven't tried and gotten away with something. And those who have been in prison and are released are sometimes apt to commit sex crimes. NOTE: I am not accusing Ricci of any sex crime, just saying what the FBI profilers said...

Again I ask, couldn't a male perp call
the garage & claim to be Angela Ricci,
simply by disguising his voice? Seems
plausible to me. I must know more or
else I'll hedge my bets on there being
"three suspected perps" with one known
to be female.

you know, if Ricci did do this..he is playing this perfectly..

.if he knows that the cops will never find her, he can lie as much as he wants to...he has issued his " what ?... me guilty?.." manifesto and he can just lie, lie and lie about his whereabouts etc....

what would be worse....death penalty for killing or a few more years for lying...

of course, if they brought him into the grand jury, and he lied, he could actually be in prison the remaining of his whole miserable life..

don't you think the DA should have done that by now?

It seems to me that everyone loves to make this case much more complicated than it is. I suggest the following:

1. The abducter knew who he wanted.

2. The abducter had either a personal familiarity with the Smart house and floorplan or had been well coached by someone who did.

3. The abduction was not a kidnapping for ransom since there has been no legitimate ransom request or indication that Elizabeth is still alive.

4. There is distinct possibility that Elizabeth Smart knew or recognized her abducter since she did not scream or apparently resist the abduction. She may have decided to be docile in hopes that the situation would resolve itself.

5. The abducter wore a hat for a distinct purpose and it wasn't because he was afraid of catching a head cold.

I suggest that Elizabeth Smart is a beautiful young girl who was abducted not for a ransom, but rather for a fee. She may in fact still be alive being held hostage as a sex slave or being used in producing child pornography.

She may have been abducted and then taken out of Utah or even out of the U.S. for such purposes. The lack of a body, the lack of a ransom demand, and her rather rare beauty suggest to me an abdution for money.

I can make the case for Ricci knowing the girl, knowing the house, consorting with other known felons (which is a feloney in and of itself), having access, opportunity, and motive. It is conceivable that Ricci abducted her and traded her for money, which he buried (post hole digger) in a spot known only to him.

Naturally, there are other possibilities, but many of the posts suggest rather far-out scenarios when compared to Ricci.

to hide that he was bald?

to make him look more civilized?

make him look like someone else?

Except some of us believe that, if she is indeed no longer among the living, she is seeing faces much more glorious than any here on Earth anyway.

A couple of years ago when I was made aware that in the State of Texas you could look up the locations of known sex offenders, I discovered there were TWO living in my nice, quiet neighborhood. So it doesn't surprise me that at trailer park might have a few.

3. The abduction was not a kidnapping for ransom since there has been no legitimate ransom request or indication that Elizabeth is still alive.

You are assuming that an abductor wouldn't have backed off a ransom demand after the case received the immediate publicity and FBI involvement that it did. That changed the risk/reward dynamic considerably and the perp(s) probably decided that Elizabeth was a liability rather than an asset.

Harsh penalty for lying to a GJ! Of course, they would have to catch him in the lie. Which lie would that be?

Meanwhile, isn't it worthwhile to try to save her? Or are you saying she'll be better off if she isn't saved.

Good analysis. One could imagine him connecting with one of his associates, who connected him up with whoever uses abducted girls for the purposes you mention, and being enticed by the money to help in the abduction.

"It is conceivable that Ricci abducted her and traded her for money, which he buried (post hole digger) in a spot known only to him."

A post hole digger would be more useful in digging a small deep hole than a shovel.

That is a good point as well. Both scenarios give some hope for Liz being alive.

Liz and MK shared a queen bed. Not only did perp know which room Elizabeth slept in, he knew which side of the bed she slept on. This definitely suggests that he knew her better than any "handyman" would.

I think Ricci and friends are just a smoke screen to make public believe SLC police are actually doing something. The fellow who reported the jeep missing was probably going for the reward $$. That's what it's there for. I wonder how many other "tips" police have received.

Ricci might, as you suggest, have used the post hole digger to bury money. Or in unrelated activity, like putting up a fence around his marijuana crop in the wilderness to keep deer away, which he definitely would not want to admit to cops. Perhaps dirt samples from jeep, digger, other equipment will identify area where Ricci dug.

But I'm convinced that the perp is someone much closer to the Smarts than any handyman. Kidnapping her to turn her over to someone else,as you suggest, might be true, but if it was someone who knew her well, perhaps from a distance of a block or one degree of social rank, a crime of passion seems more likely.

If money was the motive, the amount would have to be greater than the $250k reward. That's a lot to pay for one small blond when there are so many others in the world. The money motive holds up in my mind if Ed Smart owed a huge amount to some less than legit lender, not an unusual arrangement in construction business, and lender's goons were making an example for other borrowers.
