Sorry, I may have misinformed you.
In searching for some FACTS on the basis for the movie -- I couldn't find anything that wasn't clearly just a review of the "film".

I guess I was fooled by the rolling "wrap up" at the end of the film - which gave specific actions taken against the "bad guys" in the administration.....

I'll keep looking and let you know if I find anything - FACTUAL.

...you obviously haven't read or heard any of the soldiers talking about how the locals lie about every bombing. Remember the "UN storage bombing"? A lie. "The Afghan caravan bombing"? A lie....

...remember the four dead, and eight wounded, Canadian soldiers? The truth.

The questions I would like to see answered are, why is Afghanistan still a free-fire zone for US air power, even though we are told the Taliban and Al-Qaeda have been wiped out there? Why will the USAF not change their rules of engagement, despite these cases of friendly and civilian casualties? Why is Afghanistan being used as a weapons proving ground by foreign forces, despite that country having already elected a new parliament?

Deb, it is not anti-American or anti-military of me, to ask these questions. Regards, By.

Were the Afghans involved in the reports on the Canadian deaths? No. And that's what we were talking about.

Who said the Taliban and al quaeda have been "wiped out"? Please post a link. Also a source for your claim Afghanistan is being used as a "weapons proving ground by foreign forces"...whatever that means.

Since Kharsi hasn't requested all non-Afghani troops out of the country, you can assume the new government needs the foreign troops there to prevent its over-throw. They also need us to help train their army.

Just because you say raising these questions isn't unpatriotic, doesn't make it so. That seems to be the Democrat's mantra and is a very thin veil to hide behind. You at least have the obligation to get your facts straight and not make absurd claims.

..were the Afghans involved in the reports on the Canadian deaths? No. And that's what we were talking about..

Here's a quote from yesterday's ABC news, Deb :

US pilots blamed for fatal 'friendly fire' incident Two US fighter pilots have been referred to the air force for possible disciplinary action after an investigation found they caused a "friendly fire" bombing in Afghanistan that killed four Canadian soldiers and wounded eight others. Marine Lieutenant General Michael DeLong says the unprecedented joint US-Canadian investigation found the cause of the April 17 bombing "to be the failure of the two pilots to exercise appropriate flight discipline, which resulted in a violation of the rules of engagement and an inappropriate use of lethal force".

I think recent incidents like that should be taken into account when discussing civilian casualties, like we are on this thread.

..who said the Taliban and al quaeda have been "wiped out"? Please post a link....

The US media, as reported here on FR. "Cornered Taliban wiped out in Tora Bora lair", and all the rest of it.

...also a source for your claim Afghanistan is being used as a "weapons proving ground by foreign forces"...whatever that means...

That source would be me. Why, now the situation is clearly stabilised, are the USAF flying around under such loose rules of engagement that a 500 pounder can be dropped on a bunch of Canadians at a rifle range? Why are they shooting up village weddings, after Afghanistan's already elected a new parliament? Answer me those, please.

...since Kharsi hasn't requested all non-Afghani troops out of the country, you can assume the new government needs the foreign troops there to prevent its over-throw. They also need us to help train their army...

You can't assume any such thing. I've heard the US has some kind of military presence in over one hundred countries around the world. If that's not right, let me know the actual number.

... just because you say raising these questions isn't unpatriotic, doesn't make it so. That seems to be the Democrat's mantra and is a very thin veil to hide behind. You at least have the obligation to get your facts straight and not make absurd claims....

Well, I'm no Democrat. I am a rock solid conservative, and a long time friend and admirer of the US. As you very well know. And I remember well when these people were armed and supplied by America, and fought an incredibly brave and costly guerilla war against Soviet invaders. Most conservatives I knew admired their struggle very much. Now I sit here reading FR and watch you guys yuk it up over the deaths of forty 'ragheads.' And then, on the next thread, it's 'why do they hate us?'

...it seems to me that if it really were a wedding party, they would have video footage of people celebrating and then a bomb falling on them. People may be dirt poor in Afghanistan, but Osama bin Laden proved that they do have video cameras there....

Mind if I e-mail this around, Sally?

Some friends and I have been discussing the way so many people will believe anything these days, and I've been arguing that public education has lowered the Gullibility Index.

I think once they see your post, it'll be game, set n' match to ol' By.

Sir, perhaps you will find within this post the following quote; "Nearing dusk, AC-130 Spectre gunships saved the day with a withering barrage of fire that subdued the enemy."

Who's day did they save? The Aussie SAS.

Again please tell me how you discern "happy" fire from "hostile" fire?

Don't know. I have no personal military experience.

But that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on this issue; and my opinion is, 1. too many innocents and friendlies are getting killed; 2. the rules of engagement need reviewing.
