That is a restriction on the several states, not on the federal government.

There you go -- semantics again.

Surely you jest. In the first place the clause you quoted is in Section 10, not Section 9. In the second place these are actions forbidden to the states and not the Federal Government. I suppose that this means that Georgia couldn't enter into a treaty with the United Nations but has absolutely nothing to do with the United States. The treaty we have with the UN was ratified by the Senate, as required by Article II, Section 2, so all constitutional requirements were met.

Excuse the typo. It is Section 10.

I fear, madam, that your Constitutional interpretation leaves much to be desired. Care to try again?

"No, a Texan who disobeyed direct orders and spit in the face of everyone that's ever worn the uniform. A coward."

You Suck!

How many years did you serve? NONE!

Go back to Berkley

What an eloquent response.

By the way, I served four years and Michael New was dead wrong.

Not really. I'd rather unfurl my Betsy Ross Flag and salute Independence Day.

It's sad that you actually thought it was metal. Public education or just a dunce?

Self taught. Guess I was thinking about the density of the skull of the person I was replying to. Luck for you I didnt say Lead of Honor. LOL Sorry :)

New had two options for his defense: he could show that he actually DID obey the order, or he could show that the order was not a lawful order. He did not attempt the former; he was singularly unsuccessful in the latter.

New disobeyed a lawful order, received a fair trial (courts-martial actually give more protections to the accused than civilian courts), was convicted, and the convictions were upheld on review. End of story.

No, a Texan who disobeyed direct orders and spit in the face of everyone that's ever worn the uniform. A coward.

New refused to follow an order that was against Army regulations AR 670-1, to be specific.

The UN flag was an unauthorized patch in an unauthorized place. The Army and Congress didn't have the courage to amend the regs and lacked the moral integrity to admit that they were wrong.

If soldiers are expected to refuse illegal orders, then it is incumbent on the Army to let the soldiers know which illegal orders are 'really illegal'. /sarcasm.

BWT, I wore the uniform and can only speculate as to whether I'd have the guts to stand up for what was right like New did. The easy thing is to go along to get along, but he didn't do it.

Yes, well, enjoy your day and I thank God that your Independence Day is still July 4th and not some date in January. But that is a debate for another forum.

Colonel William R. Higgins, USMC, a patriot for sure. Our government has done some stupid things. First and foremost is getting us involved with the UN.

You have misinterpreted my post I would not slur Col. Higgins for his service I would however question those who control the UN and send American military people into harms way.

By the way will the US every get out of the UN police action in Korea? How many lives, how much of our treasury has that debacle cost America?

Well, I think this whole hate the NWO/UN is silly. The time has come to realize there are some good things we can do in conjunction with other people.
