They do not want to be viewed or labeled as the organic, tree-hugging, penis-loathing, militant, lesbian feminist.

100 bucks says this gal is an organic, tree-hugging, penis-loathing, militant, lesbian feminist.

This is one of those things that I laugh at constantly. Most black women don't shave their legs. Certainly they take care of other parts of their anatomy as far as that is concerned. Now on the other hand, there are some who need to shave and don't -- you see them every once in a while.

When I first moved to Georgia, one of the things that I noticed (and it completely floored me) was the number of women with facial hair (i.e., whispy mustaches) in the South. From talking to other folks, apparently that is something that those women deal with in their own way -- quite a few of them NOT dealing with it. (cringe)

But OTOH, my mother, my mother in law, and She-who-must-be-obeyed don't shave their legs, and (at least with my wife) never have.

But some people (i.e., obviously the woman who wrote this article) need more than an Epilady in their bathroom. She probably needs a Norelco (and no, I don't mean one of those prissy Lady Norelcos), or barring that, a pair of hedge trimmers...

This broad would fit right in up there in Ithaca. Plus her fur would provide a nice isulating layer for the cold winters.

Women should embrace body hair

As long as I don't have to.

FWIW, when I was attended college at a "left-wing" campus in the Midwest back in the mid-70s, body hair was all the rage. You'd have even the most attractive girls with hairy pits and legs.

Of course, they also favored combat fatigue pants and olive-drab tank-tops, so it wasn't as if the entire package had much to say for itself.

Socialization with them was like dating a female Sandinista.

Ya know...the really funny thing is I'll bet it has never even occurred to Ms. Carr the practice of feminine shaving was most likely started by a woman...trying to beat out other women for "belle of the ball."

"The Market" is a wonderful thing to behold.

Awright, so most of us agree that hair should be removed from all the wrong places. Like it or not, some people do have this, er, genetic predispositioning. What, then, is a good serious recommendation to give someone who wants it gone without having to shave daily?

The best I've heard is laser hair removal, which with a few (rather expensive) treatments uses intense light to eliminate the dark-hair-creating cells. Sounds like it would work, but I want to know more. Comments? Any other serious suggestions?

American women did not remove underarm or leg hair prior to 1915 because full-coverage clothing styles made these areas rarely visible, according to an article, by Susan A. Basow, in the Psychology of Women Quarterly entitled "The Hairless Ideal: Women and Their Body Hair."

Oh, really? Has anyone ever seen a portrait from the revolutionary period when bare shoulders were 'in' that showed arm pit hair?

Let's see:

- "Miss Afghanistan" picture... check.

- Andrew Dice Clay quote... check.

- Pictures of ZZ Top... check.

- "Chewbacca in a headlock/leglock" joke... check.

Heck, there must be *something* else to contribute to this thread. Ah, of course. The old "Why sex is like golf" joke, which reads (in part):

****

- Play must be approved by the owner of the course.

- The owner is responsible for all maintenance and must keep the fairway neatly trimmed.

- The object of the game is to take as many strokes as necessary until the course owner is satisfied that the play is complete. Failure to do so may result in being denied permission to play the course again.

- It is considered bad form to begin playing the hole immediately upon arrival at the course. The experienced player will normally take time to admire the entire course, with special attention to well formed bunkers.

- Players are encouraged to have proper rain gear along, just in case.

- Players should not assume a course is in shape for play at all times. Some players may be embarrassed if they find the course to be temporarily under repair. Players are advised to be extremely tactful in this situation. More advanced players will find alternate means of play when this is the case.

- Players are advised to obtain the course owner's permission before attempting to play the back nine.

- Slow play is encouraged; however, players should be prepared to proceed at a quicker pace, at least temporarily, at the course owner's request.

Why is it leftist women take a "women's studies" course and immediately begin to think like children?

Women shave their body hair simply for the reason that it is fashionable. It's not due to "male oppression" and more than oppressive males decide the "hot new look" in the fashion magazines.

These things are cultural. Like different styles of clothing, make up, hair style, tatoos, body piercing and all the rest. People learn to find certain things attractive. It takes generations to change these styles, but inevitably they do change. And not through political moves, or pseudo-journalistic harrangues.

Couldn't women better spend that time enhancing who they are instead of taking away from it?

Silliness - the author has defined shaving as "taking away" when the bulk of women clearly consider it "enhancing." Another leftie trying to define her way through a political argument, and not very deftly at that.

Personal freedom is sometimes difficult for leftwing political theorists. Rather than insisting that all women change their behavior based on her political predilictions, I'd suggest our author take a "pro-choice" approach and let them do what they want. They will anyway.
