Unfortunately in this day and age, the mom didn't know who might be watching and turn her in for child abuse. Perhaps Brian was getting code for "I'm going to burn your a££ when we get home." I doubt it, but I sure would have said all the right things in the store and gotten outta there. Since the mom didn't even apologise, Brian has probably never met the business end of a palm. But it is worth noting that it is risky to come on too strong in public to a recalcitrant child.

I recall my parents gripping the top of my shoulder or the end of my elbow (when I was taller) to quickly propel me to the car for a private punishment. I can still remember that death-grip. Ow.
