Cigarettes are far deadlier than marijauna. And no one has ever died of an overdose of marijuana, nor have I heard any cases of people driving under the influence of it
The logic of marijuana being illegal escapes me.

I have witnessed cases of people driving under the influence of marijuana. Those should be dealt with as DUI, though. No need to penalize people who sit safely at home getting baked.

When I was a 'hippie', I had a boyfriend who was arrested while high on pot and in possession of same. He hung himself in his jail cell. I would agree he had some big emotional issues (and used pot to get away from them), but the pot contributed to his actual suicide in that it served to enhance the 'size' of those problems in his mind. And please spare me the 'pot doesn't do that kind of thing' argument. I used to smoke it, so I know better.

My neighbor told me that when alcohol was made legal again, after Prohibition, the feds had too many agents running around with not enough to do. Marijuana and other drugs were legal at that time. So they made them illegal so the FBI wouldn't have to lay off their agents. Who knows if it's true?

Actually I think it was a Canadian study done on dogs. I read the report back in the 70s that they did determine a lethal dose. One (a dog, anyway) would have to smoke 100 joints in an hour to obtain a fatal dose.

It's illegal because you don't need Phillip Morris or Anheuser Busch to produce it. It can be produced for "free" with little technical know how. It's an economy killer. It's also a good bogeyman for law enforcement budgets and testing labs. That said, I wish people didn't need any of this stuff to feel "happy" in their lives.
