Even though he was a devoted student of the Napoleonic style of warfare? Lee sent his men into the teeth of the Union cannon on Malvern Hill in 1862. It was a bloody disaster. He did the same with Pickett's division just over a year later with the same results. No Francis Marion-style of tactics for him. Lee lost to McClellan, to Meade, and to Grant. Sounds like your peerless general had his off days.

Brilliant deduction. No doubt you've heard of First Manassas? I could list the battle won by CSA generals with far less troops, supplies and equipment, but the amount of bandwidth won't allow it.
