I'm approaching 50 and have a top 5% income, so you are wide of the mark on my motivations. I live in the city (by choice; I don't fancy spending 2-4 hours a day commuting) and hunt for parking on the street. SUVs, vans, and minivans hog parking space and block vision. The first is an irritation; the second is a safety hazard. I'm pefectly serious about sending the cops to ticket illegally parked SUVs and vans that are parked right up on the corner blocking the sight lines.
That said, I understand the attraction of minivans for families with multiple kids. I test drove a couple before purchasing my last car for exactly that reason. A very short drive was enough to convince me that one would have to be slightly insane to drive and park such a behemoth on city streets. However, if you're a suburban cowboy and the world beyond your cul-de-sac is mostly office parks, malls, and big parking lots, SUVs probably make perfect sense. But they're lousy city cars.
All this is irrelevant, you drive what you want/(can afford) and
I will drive what I want/(can afford), else next you will be
telling me what I have to eat. What church to attend..........
