AB 1058 Anti-SUV bill clone passes in CA
Hegh Hewitt | 2002/07/01 | Hugh Hewitt

Posted on 07/01/2002 6:51:05 PM PDT by ZGuy

John Campbell (R) just announced on the Hugh Hewitt show that the democrats in Sacramento have pulled a fast one. Bill 1058 which has been written about on several posts originally failed. The democrats took a bill on Friday night which dealt with an unrelated subject and gutted out the language. They then inserted the exact language of 1058 and the senate passed it Friday. This (Monday) afternoon the house got the bill. The democrats had to hold a hearing and every office in the capital was available but they chose to hold the "hearings" in the smallest office in the building - the only one which had no TV cameras, no radio, no cameras, and no space for reporters or the public to attend. They then passed a vote making this bill exempt from the 3-day waiting period required by law for public input. The democrats just passed the bill in the last 45 minutes and it now goes to the governor's desk. No republicans voted for the bill in either chamber. One highlight - (Dennis?) Cardoza - the democrat running for Condit's seat voted for the bill in the central valley. He's toast.

Get nasty? Hey, it wasn't an appeals court in our state that declared the word (deemed unconstitutional by the 9th Circuit) unfit for our nation's Pledge. It wasn't our state that gave the nation Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein.

So you pray for a major earthquake to hit California?

None reached the pinnacle or perpetrated the atrocities that Janet Reno from Florida did. Should we all pray for major hurricane to hit Florida?

Go back and enjoy your humid swamp now. You deserve it junior.

If I screw up my tires running all over those pills, you'll be staring down the barrell of a lawsuit.

Yeah! Yeah! I forgot about those! Well....how about the cans of DOG FOOD I have to eat, too???? Huh?

Now, on a REAL SERIOUS topic.....my daughter just used my computer, and somehow dragged or stuck or whatever all my icons that WERE running along the bottom of the screen, over to a nice little box on the right side of the screen. The Start button is now on the upper right hand edge of the screen. I THOUGHT you only had to drag them back.

Ha! Jokes on ME! I canNOT get them back to where they belong!!! HELP!!!!!

Any questions?

Yep. Just one. Why do people have to pick on other people all the time? ESPECIALLY on Free Republic where we're "supposed" to be family?

Sounds ok to me.

Don't worry, upchuck, I'll try to press Post" only once this time.

I took from your comment more than the fact that you keep "a list". Of course, anyone is free to keep lists and to have all manner of personal preferences, idiosynchrasies, quirks, even perversions.

However, what I understood from your comment is that you were in favor of an oppressive government regulation that served to prevent people from obtaining a legal product -- an SUV, because you didn't like SUV's. That is a petulant and pedantic position to take, IMO.

Laws enacted to deal with marketplace externalities, in terms of equalizing social risks and costs, I can accept. But outlawing, or penalizing a product simply because one "doesn't like it" is over the top. But this is what liberals do. From reading the other "dislikes" you cited, I would have expected a different comment in your original post.

How did that old saying go? When they came for the Christians, I didn't do anything, for I was not a Christian...

Junior? Sigh, guess I have to include the </sarcasm off tag for California now. Ah well, it was a fun thread while it lasted. Enjoy your taxation.

Sounds ok to me. But, then, SUVs are on my list of "Things that don't need to be."

This is a joke, right?

This has to be priority one to repeal!

Watch for the same to pass in 10 more states now.

" but it's kind of like the Charge of the Light Brigade out there..."

By simple arithmetic, there are more conservatives in California than any other state... More than there are people period in most states :o)

Gosh darn it! Californians better remember the revolution and start dumping legislators into the bay to protest the SUV tax!

Oh geez, I just got here.

For now, I'm staying and fighting. At some point, I may leave. Depends on what develops (translation: depends on how much longer the dims have to ruin the lifestyle here).

Thanks e-s. I believe that this is environut envy. I believe that if they
could they'd try a similar thing re expensive housing. Say it "despoils the environment" and
"wastes resources" (that could be spent on bums and deviates).

What's the matter Junior? You forgot to respond to my post. Here, I will run it up again for you.

You know, it's very revealing when people like you, "Nuke m Glowing", (Jezz, great handle you got there :o) suggest that Americans in other states be caused harm, as you make statements praying for their destruction because you may not like the current state of politics.

It's very revealing junior. You have no credibility here.

Hi Gramma.

I'm not a computer expert, but I believe all you have to do is select (i.e. single-click on) the tool bar and drag it to the edge of the screen that you want it to reside on (in your case, the bottom) and let go. It should stay there. Don't know what kind of settings you use (always on top, etc.) but these should stay the same.
