John Campbell (R) just announced on the Hugh Hewitt show that the democrats in Sacramento have pulled a fast one. Bill 1058 which has been written about on several posts originally failed. The democrats took a bill on Friday night which dealt with an unrelated subject and gutted out the language. They then inserted the exact language of 1058 and the senate passed it Friday. This (Monday) afternoon the house got the bill. The democrats had to hold a hearing and every office in the capital was available but they chose to hold the "hearings" in the smallest office in the building - the only one which had no TV cameras, no radio, no cameras, and no space for reporters or the public to attend. They then passed a vote making this bill exempt from the 3-day waiting period required by law for public input. The democrats just passed the bill in the last 45 minutes and it now goes to the governor's desk. No republicans voted for the bill in either chamber. One highlight - (Dennis?) Cardoza - the democrat running for Condit's seat voted for the bill in the central valley. He's toast.

By God, give me freedom from liberalism or give me death. I have had it with liberalism and it has become obvious to me that the REAL and present danger to this country is not terrorism. It is what has incubated from within our own culture and society and has festered into the most dangerous hive of mutants ever dreamed of...the Democratic Party. I reject them all and pray that God removes this scourge and forever prevents it's return.

What ever happened to the great state of California? So much innovation and customizing in the auto industry got it's very life in California. It started out west and found it's way across the rest of the US eventually and now these "idiots in charge" want everyone walking. It is sickening. Tell me about it. I came here to join the technology boom in the late seveties. Life was good here for a while. Great schools, roads, properties, weather. About the only things the dims haven't ruined is the weather, but they are working on it. Their motto seems to be: "I hate my life, so you must be made miserable also". Signed -- Moving Soon

And the drivers of other cars? Same thing? (I hope so)Yeah. When I go up to the cabin, it's easy to spot the weekend tourists driving in town. (Northern Michigan seems to be a trinary society: The Year-Rounders, the Cabin-Owners, and the Weekend-Warriors. COs share characteristics of both groups...)

Remember how easy it was top support higher tobacoo taxes cause you didn`t smoke? I don`t own a tax machine, SUV, so what do I care . See how easy it is to have the other guy pay the taxes.

Sounds ok to me. But, then, SUVs are on my list of "Things that don't need to be." Several other "things that don't need to be", but are:
Hot fudge sundaes
Cheeseburgers
Ice
Nikes
First class
Bass boats
Snoopy
You got a problem with those, too?
Beauty shops
Nail polish
All clothing that is not blue - cap included
Wait a minute, seems like I been to this place before. I volunteer the SUV hater to return there.

"Southern California Gathering of Goats"?????????????
To: Paul Atreides
How is an SUV any worse than a yacht or private jet/helicopter? Not the point. It's not THEIR SUV they are concerned about. It's YOURS!
To: Rockitz
Right on the money.. you get it.
To: Mad_Tom_Rackham
Exactly, they want you to give up yours, but will they give up theirs? Hell no.
To: unix
BWAHAHAHAH..The one reason I will never own one of those is because I have this: They will be coming for you next...

So given enough money (which should be available from all the organizations lined up against it), some good political consultants, and a quick enough reaction time, it is possible to force it onto the ballot and then defeat it. If you follow the link that you posted, there's a list of organizations that are against the bill.
