Cyril's army of monks murdered the prefect and were cannonized by him for this deed; marauding through the city they came across Hypatia, daughter of the Museum's last great mathematician Theon. After her death Alexandria became steadily less stable, overrun by the monks who evolved into the Copts, who incorporated the old Alexandrian prejudices towards foreigners with the new prejudice towards any scientific or classical knowledge.

That was in response to someone who said that Christians invented science. Seems like they were killing pagan scientists and librarians, hacking their flesh off, burning them alive, buring the libraries, and getting Sainted for it. That's history -- corrected for the poor ignorant poster who thinks Christians are only sweetness and light (well, except for their righteous hatreds.)

Be careful with generalizations. The typical atheistic response is to generalize Christianity by the actions of a small number of people who never truly walked the walk. One could just as well point to the history of Christian persecution under Communist regimes as evidence that atheists and evolutionists are savages. After all, atheism and evolution "science" have been a big part of the history of communism.
