I have to wonder what life gave Fred Reed in the package called marriage? Sounds like he got royally screwed and wants to believe everyone is going to receive the same raw deal. I just spent the weekend with some couples who are very happy, some of whom have been together going on 30 years. I'd say this Fred Reed fellow is probably a good candidate for suicide judging by some of his pessimistic musings.

My husband and I just celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary and are as happy today as we were 43 years ago. To boot, we were also High School Sweethearts. We have two adult children that we do know, do talk with and whom we love and respect. They also love and respect us. My husband and I share a deep love and a caring that I cannot describe. When he offers to donate something for me during surgery...what do you call that? I call it love in it's finest moment.

I would recommend to young men AND women that they know someone well before they marry. Make sure the physical attrraction does not blind you to the person you plan to spend the rest of our life with 24 hours a day. Go into your marriage both of you with the idea it is forever, you will love and cherish each other, bring loving babies into the world for you and your wife to lead, guide and teach properly then maybe when they are adults you can speak with them and like them. Also, you and your wife will now be able to do what you want together because the love you began with is still there and you have each other to grow old with.

The author of this article sounds very bitter to me. Yes, there are times when divorced men are put through the wringer. Women too have that problem. It is not limited to men only. I hope you will rethink the advice you give young men 'cause it is really a sad commentary on your part. You sir, do them a vast injustice. Thank God there are others out there with a positive outlook on the Sacrament of Marriage who will counter your "woe is me" attitude.
