California: Heating up: Evidence of global warming raises state, national concern

Doug Osugi can't say exactly when he began believing in global warming. The realization that Earth's temperature truly is rising dawned gradually.

"It is not something that suddenly, the next day, you realize that it's true," said Osugi, a California water resources planner. "I think it's something that you're slowly being convinced that, yes, it's there, as more and more information comes out.

Dumb question:
who decided that the CO2 readings from one place (Mauna Loa Observatory) are the
gold standard.

Isn't this taking gas reading next to basically an active volcano?

How can this be more reliable than averages from say 5 or 10 spots around the planet?

Given New York's plan to eliminate recycling of glass and plastic, is there anything we can do to eliminate the recycling of tired leftist theories?

"I don't think we have enough information to have specifics on what will work and what will not work, but I think we can look at strategies that might identify possible things we can look at in the future," Osugi said.

I wonder if these strategies will require more resources for his agency? Hmmmmm?

There are hints in the rivers, at the coastline and in temperatures that weather patterns already may be changing.

Yeah, before we started burning fossil fuels the weather patterns were exactly the same everyday.

Twenty years ago the bugaboo was Global Cooling--which never caught on. Now it is Global Warming-which is going like crazy! But the evidence for Global Cooling and the evidence for Global Warming are precisely the same evidence.

So what is the difference? Why did Global Warming catch on? Because with Global Cooling there was nobody to blame!! And with Global Warming the kneejerks can find lots of folks to blame.

Let all of us that live east of the continental divide hope that California gradually cooks into a primordial soup that drains into the Pacific.

If these people are concerned about CO2, they should stop recycling paper. I don't know the chemical composition of cellulose-based newsprint, but burying a ton of newsprint and growing trees to produce another ton effectively removes a lot of CO2 from the atmosphere (I don't know just how much, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's over a ton given that CO2 is less than 1/3 carbon).

My take on this article.
Something may or may not be happening, we are not sure.
We must do something, but we don't know what.
If we don't do something, we all will perish.
This appears to be pure GIGO.
Garbage in, garbage out.

The enviralists prefer to burn trees than to grow them. Keeps the wood out of the hands of those who might profit from it!

Why do they keep recycling such garbage?

I've always wondered that if there was some shred of evidence that the earth was cooling, would the hoopla be as great.

Would there be a panic to drill for more oil to meet the increased demands of an ever shrill liberal elite??

Analyses of atmospheric gases trapped in polar ice suggest that before the Industrial Revolution, the level of carbon dioxide was 280 parts per million, a concentration that warmed Earth enough to make it habitable. Modern carbon dioxide readings first were taken in 1958. That year the level, which fluctuates slightly from season to season, stood around 315 ppm. Today, it exceeds 370 ppm.

Let's remember that CO2 is measured in parts per MILLION! To think that a 100 parts per MILLION increase in CO2 is causing global warming is preposterous. I bet the increase in CO2 that is being claimed is well within the margin of error of the testing equipment anyway...

Next time you are obliged to deal with an environmentalist talking about 'global warming' and intimating that Western capitalism is the culprit, ask him/her to explain what caused the Little Ice Age, the period of cooling that began about 1300 and lasted for centuries. Your enviro will either give a blank stare that means they have never heard of it, or they'll get that deer-in-the-headlights look I love. Remember to be nice - don't hurt them. They're not bad people, just ignorant. Have fun!
