Exclusive: Osama bin Laden and the Mystery of the Skull
MSNBC ^ | June 30, 2002 | John Barry

Posted on 06/30/2002 4:36:38 AM PDT by The Raven

July 8 issue — Does the United States have the skull of one of Osama bin Laden’s lieutenants, or even bin Laden himself? If not, why the mystery about what we have found? In early May, Canadian troops came across a grave site at the Afghan village of Ali Khel near Tora Bora on the border with Pakistan. The cluster of graves was festooned with flags and banners, and lit at night. Villagers said the graves held the remains of Qaeda fighters killed in December in the battle for Tora Bora. Bin Laden and his top aides were in the area when the 17-day U.S. air assault began but he hasn’t been provably seen since. Could he be buried at Ali Khel?

I recall reading an interview of one of the soldiers digging up the graves who said that the body build of the man in the key grave was heavy set man and not OBL.

Rumsfeld was asked about the bodies buried at this site several times. I remember a DOD press conference a few weeks after the site was discovered. Rummy was asked if the site contained Osama's body. He said they thought it contained some Taliban leaders but it did not contain Osama's body. A simple DNA test would reveal Osama. Media reports shortly after 911 said we had acquired DNA from Osama's relatives so we could identify him using DNA.

It is a pretty good bet that we have NO DNA to use to match many other Tabliban and Al Qaida leaders.

We are trying to figure out which if any of the Taliban leaders are dead and which are alive. According to this story they are still working on it. If identity could be determined with DNA, it would have been done months ago. It is obvious they are trying to prove some peoples identities with a rebuilds of facial features from skulls. We may have pictures of some of them or more likely people who knew the Al Qaida we have killed. We most certainly have people who might identify some of them from facial rebuilds.

A few years ago I was briefed by a US Army Colonel who had been a liason officer with the Afghanistan Army when they were fighting the Soviet Union. He could certainly identity their commanders from facial rebuilds. I suspect we have many such people in our military and CIA.

It should be obvious to all but the most mentally retarded that our government would not go to a facial restructure artist if we had DNA from these people to compare with the DNA from the skulls or other bones. We have the skulls. No one denies that. We have the DNA from the skulls. What seems certain is we have no other source of DNA from these people from which to find a match. The Defense Dept has no ability to facial restructure from skulls. That means to try to idenify the remains our government had to go to the FBI which in turn went to an anthropologist to do facial rebuilds. That would not be done to identify Osama.

If the Government were trying to cover it up, the DNA tests would have been done by the DOD. Then the DOD people would have been ordered to lie. Military personel are under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. When a commander tells a military person to lie for "national Security" and he choses to tell the truth, he can be imprisoned or put to death. The least such a leaker could hope for is a dishonorable discharge, loss of pension, and an unfavorable job recomendation. People leak to gain, not to lose. Military Secrets are easy to keep. CIA secrets are not quite as easy to keep. FBI secrets are even harder to keep. Smithsonian institute secrets are not kept very weill at all.

As soon as skulls got out to the control of the Military you know it could not be a conspiracy to hide the death of bin Laden. The media may be dumb, but our Military is smart. If the military is told to keep something a secret, it will be kept a secret. The Smithsonian is laden with leftists who would not hesitate 10 seconds to leak that the Bush administration is lying.

It is obvious that the source of this story is the Smithsonian. They don't have anything to embarrass the Bush administration with, but that does not stop them from trying to insinuate conspiracy.

The author figures his readers are a couple of brain cells shy of a thinkging machine. It is fun for him to go to the Washington Press corp and brag how many stupid idiots fell for his story.

Typical of MSNBC they report a story that has been covered before. They play straight forward news for conspiracy. They believe their viewers and readers are too dumb to figure it out.

But what can you expect from a network that is programed by the clueless for the stupid and the ignorant.

Psychologically speaking, the US is acting wisely. Hope lingers, but is eventually extinguished as reality takes over. Muslims know he is dead along with hundreds of Al Qaida leaders; they are dead because they just couldn't remain silent given the tenor of the fatwas issued in 1996 and 1998, both of which demanded attacks on the United States. The question now is, is there anyone capable of taking his place?

...or more likely people who knew the Al Qaida we have killed. We most certainly have people who might identify some of them from facial rebuilds.

Can you imagine the word spreading amongst the simple, ignorant peaple, when shown a picture of the reconstructed face?

CIA Interregator: "Is this Omar?"

Taliban Mooslim Detainee: "Aiiieee! It is Omar! But he is dead. I saw heem killed in Tora Bora."

CIA Interragator: "That's right. We found his grave, dug him up and re-created him. We did this so we could imprison him for his natural life. After he dies a second time, we're gonna do it again. Now were is Osama, baby."

Or until an adolescent congressional aid gets hold of it. Good analysis.

Don't know if OBL is dead but they promised a video a week or two ago and there still is none. The clock is ticking

Al Qaeda spokescreep, Abu Ghaith, promised a new Osama video for the 4th of July. If he doesn't come through, it discredits the radicals.

I believe the Muslim world saw secular Turkey come in third place in the World Cup, while religious Saudi Arabia was humiliated.

The government has DNA samples of some of Bin Ladens relatives. Im sure they tested this skull, so if it was him, they would have said so.
