,,, in my formative years I was educated by nuns. Their method of ensuring I sat still was to hit my knuckles with either a thick wooden ruler or tan my arse with a firm leather strap. I'm pleased to say the long term effects of this conditioning is testimony to their claims that I'd thank them in years to come... perhaps a covert reference to their vision of me logging on to FR and "sitting still".

They know exactly what they are doing...

Indeed they do. Competitive physical pursuits, especially during "free" time, support male aggression and assertiveness. They must be neutered for the common good dontchya know. This of course is helped along by the Ministry, er, Department of Education's central planners.

Getting school control back to the local level would go a long way in solving the problem. A stay-at-home mom to monitor the daily goings on in the schools wouldn't hurt either ; )

I'll look for them, thanks! I am thinking about getting a teaching certificate, and would only want under 3rd grade. This will be valuable for me.

What grade do you teach Summer?

I understand about litigation. I'm sure teachers have to be very careful. And I've been in classes that needed a very tight rein because chaos would break out in an instant.

Having two sons, this is of great interest to me. My oldest is going into 5th grade and doing fine. But my little one is a pistle! He's 4 and I worry about him when I read things like this.

I've taught several different grade levels, and yes, teachers do have to be careful. That's why "just playin" and touching, by both girls and boys, is strongly DISCOURAGED.

BTW, the author of this ariticle, for all his valid points, really loses points with me because he sounds completely unaware of all the litigation in schools.
