Productivity higher in France and Germany? Hah!

Ya, I missed that one. Germany and France may be higher in manufacturing productivity, possibly. But it is exponentially lower in the service, information and retail economy. And that is what dominates, which may be why America has a widening per capita income advantage over both of these presumed productivity Titans.
