the united states was built on a heap of skeletons of Indians...who are today organized into soverign states with most of the tribes owning land and free from the tax burden other citizens have to bear.You forgot to add they are the beneficaries of many many of the white mans tax dollars..

When studying property law it law school there was one particular interesting point made. The american indians never claimed to own the land. In fact that famous indian who sold manhatten for those beads thought he was ripping off the settler. (ie selling the brooklyn bridge) Their definition no one could own land. The colonists were of a different opinion. Their definition of ownership won out.
Today with the advent of tax exemption and casinos, the indian tribes have adopted similar definitions.
The pursuit of happiness, means pursuit of property, (real property (aka land), ones personal rights, personal property, property of association).
