Let's face it, the Internet is a great conduit for bringing out tales of stupidity! Back in the newspaper-only days, such items were used as filler around hard news articles and ads. Now, they all get to come out, and be transmitted around the planet in the blink of an eye.

I reported in an earlier thread on this idiot:

Channel 4 deserves an award, too, for gruesome coverage. The news clip I saw was shot through the back window of ambulance and showed the dis-armed escapee conscious and writhing in pain, minus his arm.

Excellent point, but I'm not so much looking at the long term as in just the past week or so.

Is somebody testing a stupid ray on prisoners?

I suppose if the train was moving about 1 MPH you could succeed, but only if the train's wheel instantly snapped the chain in two, allowing both sides of the cuffs to go free. I wouldn't bet my arm on it though.

I've seen actual photographs of people who have successfully committed suicide by laying their necks (or waists) across train tracks as a train was approaching...

So much for the gun-grabber belief that if guns were outlawed, people wouldn't be able to find other sure-fire ways to commit suicide.

(BTW, that location is at the north end of the ABQ yard so the train would have been moving at 10-15 mph, tops.)

Well then, he must have thought that the train was moving slow enough to give him time to pull his arm out right after the wheel cut the chain.

But he forgot to think about the scenario where the chain is NOT split by the wheel? Whoops!

Albuquerque police say a man who escaped from their custody lost his arm while trying to remove his handcuffs on a passing train.

The train engineer should get an award for disarming a dangerous criminal.

(Sorry..)
