Beating what's likely to be the Democratic war drum in this year's elections, Al Gore blamed the nation's economic scandals from Enron to WorldCom last night on President Bush's economic policies.
"You see now what it means to have an administration that's that committed to fighting and working on behalf of the powerful, and letting the people of this country get the short end of the stick," Gore told more than 200 supporters at a Manhattan fund-raiser.
It was his strongest attack yet on Bush's economic policies and a preview of the likely Democratic strategy for November's elections.
"What we see now is a lack of confidence in our national economic policy, in the integrity of our accounting system, in the way government is being run," Gore told more than 200 supporters in Lot 61, a trendy Chelsea night spot.
The private companies, he said, "are not telling the truth about their future liabilities so they can shovel money out to executives at the top. That is exactly what the Bush-Cheney tax plan will do. They are misleading the country about the extent of the liabilities they are putting on us ... on you."
Gore also said the Securities and Exchange Commission isn't doing its job, and he called on its chairman, Harvey Pitt, to resign, suggesting Pitt is too cozy with captains of industry.

You'd think Al would want to avoid that word "scandal" altogether!

An idiot said: "The private companies, he said, "are not telling the truth about their future liabilities so they can shovel money out to executives at the top. That is exactly what the Bush-Cheney tax plan will do."The only problem is that the idiots statement does not square with the facts:
The principal components of the Bush plan are:
- A major reduction in personal income tax marginal rates. The 39.6% and 36% rates would drop to 33%, and the 28% and 31% rates would drop to 25%. The 15% tax bracket would be retained, but a new 10% bottom bracket would apply over about a quarter of the range of the current 15% bracket. (These rate reductions are just under half of the total Bush tax cut.)
- The $500 per child tax credit would be doubled and extended to much higher-income families; two-earner couples would get a deduction of up to $3,000; taxpayers who don't itemize deductions could deduct charitable contributions; and a few other personal tax breaks would be provided. (25% of the total Bush tax cuts.)
- The rest of the Bush tax cuts reflects repeal of the federal wealth tax on very large estates (24% of the total tax cut) and tax breaks for corporations (2% of the total).

Seems to me that most, if not all, of the CEO/CFO, etc. of these business were hired during the Clinton mess years. The policies and practices they instituted and practiced were during the Clinton mess years.
It is only now, during the very beginning of the GWB Presidency that they are being discovered and dismissed (and I hope prosecuted).
Ah well...we should not pay much attention to A.G. After all, he is a democrat and he is trying to raise $$. And we all know that a democrat will say anything, sell anything or anybody to anybody, and do anything for anybody regardless of it's legality or morality, just to raise a buck.

So where are the Republicans to rebut this bilge? Why haven't they learned to take a page from the Carville - Begala playbook of 1992 and respond in the same news cycle? Such as: Enron's go-to guy on Wall Street was Clinton's former Secretary of the Treasury! Martha Stewart is an avid, active Democrat fund-raiser! Worldcom has given more to Democrat candidates in 2002 than to Republicans! Get the word out and stop quivering and quaking before Dirty Dick and Awful Al!!

"LOL! Amazing! Algore might want to talk to Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman to find out what really happened. They were busy making sure legislation to tighten accounting firms audit procedures didn't go anywhere, back before ole Joey ran for VP with algore."
I hope the RNC gets this out there with fury. I am afraid that the average voter may not know or understand the extent of this.

xerox has improperly recorded it's revenue as much as $6 billion in the last 5 years. Gore must have not read that report.
To: BigWaveBetty
Slug - That is the perfect one word description for that moron.
To: kattracks
l Gore blamed the nation's economic scandals from Enron to WorldCom last night on President Bush's economic policies.Thats like blaming the fumigator for the cockroaches.
To: KSCITYBOY
Bush won't get blamed for causeing these scandals, but it's one thing not to be blamed for causing the problem, it's another thing to be blamed for not doing anything to fix the problem.
If Bush doesn't take some decisive measures, something along the line that he took against terrorist, this will hurt Republicans and Bush. This problem is serious, and Bush has to step up to the plate and show that he is ready to fix it, otherwise the Democrats will hammer the Republicans with this. And, unlike most of the other Democratic war crys (starving children, hate the poor), this one (won't stop corporations from cheating) will be legit.
To: kattracks
Hmmm, so Gore is saying that all these companies didn't start cheating until January 20, 2001 or later. Riiiight.

Anyone who continues to believe that Algore is "brilliant" needs some professional help. What a moronic person!
To: kattracks
It was 8 years of Americans watching a President lie under oath that made corporations think they could get away with it too.

Al Gore's income statement when he was a kid would indicate all receivables from his daddy.
As an adult Gore's income statement would indicate receivables from "dead daddy's assets", the Federal gov't or from various morons that gave the dummy money as "campaign contributions".
The bottom line is that Gore never worked a day in his life and the reason he has such a stiff neck is because he has always been busy looking all around himself for the next tit he must suck to live the way daddy did.
Gore thinks he is a self made man. He is not, he is made of paper-mache from the neck up. But all that air in his head does not keep him from being more of a con man as any of the "CEO's" he points his fingers at. ENRON and these others companies are couch cushion change compared to the money Gore and people like him have burned up in their self-absorbed quest to control this country and turn it into a socialist nation of robots. With Gore being the head robot. God willing. Yes! God! The Almighty! That will never happen.

It's time for Mr. No Controlling Legal Authority to sit down and shut up.
