KOSOVO: Albanians Arrested for Atrocities Against Albanians

June 18, 2002; The UN reported that four members of the Kosovo Protection Corps (TMK) had been arrested by UNMIK police for alleged atrocities committed after NATO troops entered Kosovo. Interestingly enough, the crimes were committed against Kosovar Albanians. Three of the four men arrested were identified as officers (one a colonel in the TMK).

May 23, 2002; StrategyPage recently ran a report about Kosovo’s “back to the Balkans” behavior regarding its border with Macedonia. The UN has been attempting to cool the Kosovo assembly’s appetite for border conflict. The UN and UNMIK have now gotten into the political fray. On May 23 UN officials ordered the assembly to throw out a resolution in the assembly that essentially claimed Macedonia was using a Yugoslavia-Macedonia border accord to annex 2.5 square kilometers of Kosovo. The UN said the resolution would “antagonize” the international community. No kidding. Britain issued a diplomatic condemnation of the Kosovo assembly’s resolution, with the comment that this was the kind of action that led to instability in the area.

May 17, 2002; The UN reported the arrest of Kosovo’s custom’s director. According to AFP, the man (identified as Ylber Rraci) is a Kosovar Albanian. He is charged with “fraud and malpractice.” It looks like the UN is demonstrating that its anti-corruption campaign has teeth.

May 14, 2002; Western press sources reported that a 23-year old Kosovar Albanian was convicted in a Kosovo court of murdering a 70-year old Kosovar Serbian woman. The Kosovar Albanian received a sentence of 15 years. The murder took place in March 2000. A UN source said the young Albanian had wanted the woman’s home, so he killed her. This looks like a mild price to pay for murder (or ”ethnic cleansing”), but at least it’s a conviction.

The way things are going, the UN may be able to leave Kosovo around the year 2075.

The KLA's primary activity was always killing loyalist and moderate Albanians. That is why once the liberal HumWarriors kicked the police out in June 1999, the civilian death rate quadrupled.

One can only wonder why it took 3 years to start arresting these KLA killers. How many innocents died because the HumWarriors were blinded by their own propaganda.

One can only wonder is right. The old saying that "the 1st casualty in war is truth," and that certainly applies to this situation in Kosovo from day one of that war.
