Supreme Court gives go-ahead for school vouchers!

(06-27) 07:30 PDT (AP) -- ^Supreme Court gives go-ahead for school vouchers, lowers wall between church and state=

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Constitution allows public money to underwrite tuition at religious schools as long as parents have a choice among a range of religious and secular schools, the Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

The 5-4 ruling led by the court's conservative majority lowers the figurative wall separating church and state and clears a constitutional cloud from school vouchers, a divisive education idea dear to political conservatives and championed by President Bush.

Opponents call vouchers a fraud meant to siphon tax money from struggling public schools.

Bush and the GOP should immediately resurrect the pilot program which was originally in the education bill for school choice in select inner cities. I think it included a dozen cities. This is a total winner for the GOP in the cities if they play it right. I think the provision got 3 Dems to vote for it during the education debate, one of whom was Joe Liebermann.

It is sick, isn't it. I hate the media.

Do you think maybe they could start a program to give me a voucher to give my share of funding for National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and PBS to the private media of my choice? ;o)

Thank GOD
Don't let the 9th circuit hear you. They will tell you that you are forcing your religion on someone else.

Nice bit of editorializing isn't it? What a bunch of idiots. These people call themselves journalists; what they are in fact is a bunch of inept morons.
I call them "journalists", too. Only thing is, I understand "journalist" as shorthand for "egregiously tendentious socialist". And, IMHO,

that will be the case
so long as we have
an uncensored press.

Please God, 'til the Lord returns . . .

Ralph Neas, the ACLU, and the NEA are choking on their coffee right now. Perhaps the only confort they find is the 9th deciding the Pledge is unconstitutional.

Yes. But just like the tone-deaf liberal activist judges who ruled yesterday that the Pledge of Allegiance, because of the words "under God", is unconstitutional, the liberal media can't help being what it is. One would think they would have the sense to realize that in the wake of that decision, the nation is yearning for a "lowering of the figurative wall between church and state" and is going to reward conservatives and President Bush.

Especially if the media writes like this!

struggling public schools.

AP spin words -- those that are really struggling in public schools are students being deprived of education.

Most heavy-handed case of biased reporting I've seen in a long time. Dripping with dislike of anything conservative.

I like it when they are this biased. The public has woken up, and in a country of increasing population, liberal news outfits are losing sales.

"And a major win for the inner city minority communities and a big loss for the teacher bolsheviks... "

Bump to you. The SC 'did it for the chuldren'. A tiny dent in the Union/Government virtual monopoly. End mind control, free children from Heather multi-mommy books.

The 5-4 ruling led by the court's conservative majority

When did the flip flop artists Kennedy and Partial-Birth-O'Connor become conservatives?

There is FAR greater damage coming from the Private universities in the Ivy League than from the Public Schools. Where do you think they get their ideas from?

Before everyone goes off into hosannahs be aware that these vouchers will just as easily subsidize the funding of private Left wing schools, Black separatist movements and Islamic schools as those of the Right. Don't think this battle is won.

The two are tied together, since the only real solution to issues like the one leading to the pledge decision is (re)separation of School and State.

Excellent!

But what's this stupid AP story doing with this comment? This is not news, it's editorial. There is no church and state issue here that's just the failed argument the losers tried to use.
